Self Observation

Self Observation (The Eye that Watches)

As simple as this image is, it is one of the most powerful visuals I use in my work. It represents what therapy is attempting to do, bring about an ability to observe one’s self walking on the planet. I point out to my clients that this is the eye of compassion, guiding from in front of us, not the eye of the critic who looks at us from the back side to point out what we’ve done wrong. The compassionate eye stands a position to lead, encourage, and caution. This eye-witness is the goal of all good therapy.
